The Midline position is achieved when the hands are together on the chest between the heart and mouth.
When hands are at midline, you are aligning the body into a brain calming position.
This is the most organizing position for the central nervous system and brain.
Bringing the hands to midline, is one of the main ways baby calms himself. Just as you have trouble thinking straight when you are upset, babies can temporarily lose their ability to calm themselves. If he is too upset, he may need your help to get his hands to midline.
Even if your baby is not fussy, it is a good habit to organize her in the midline position as this will help to keep her calm and secure.
